How Saxon Switzerland got its name
In the 18th century, two Swiss artists felt reminded of their homeland by the sandstone scenery. The name Saxon Switzerland became established for the Saxon part of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains.
Sandstone cliffs and deep valleys
Rock ridges, table mountains, gorges and wooded valleys give the region its character. Walking trails, cycle routes and individual attractions open up very different landscapes.
Rathen, the Bastei and Amselsee
